Bloggers' Quilt Festival 2010

My favorite quilt in my immediate memory is the Bargello quilt made entirely from fabrics that were in my stash at the time. It's got my favorite color purple in it, and it was made while sharing a class with favorite friends.  Isn't that always the way of it?  It's the memories made while making the quilt that make it special.  I'd been working out-of-town for a number of years- "away" Monday thru Friday, only home on the weekends which did NOT leave much time for visiting with friends. My 2 buddies scheduled a bargello class in OKC which is where I was working at the time. I took the class in order to spend time with them!

I did Bargello needlework back in the 70's so I knew what we'd be doing.  I hadn't been sewing while I was spending this 6 years away from home and needless-to-say, I hadn't bought any fabric or done any quilting.  So I grabbed these fabs from the stash and I really love the way it turned out. I don't think either of those friends finished their's to this day! I retired from that out-of-town job in Aug of 2004 so the top was completed sometime before that.

I started quilting on my Gammill back in 1995 which was before any stitch regulators and new stuff like that. I did get it retro-fitted with stitch regulation along about 2006 which worked out well for this quilt because I used a template on the borders which would have been ever-so-much more difficult without the stitch regulator.  Feathers trace the curves in the light and dark areas, and feathers were added in parts of the borders too.  I used a gold polyester thread so the feathers would show up.  I'm not sure where I got this bravery to actually have the quilting stand out but it seems I did it several times right through this time frame.      Here's an example of a QOV I did about that same time.  My friend I met through the QOV partnering was committed to using scraps of every kind while making her QOVs so this one was rather plain when I got it.  I think the gold feathers dress it up ever-so-much.

Lovely, lovely. I've never made a bargello quilt (too many techniques to learn and too little time), so I really admire yours.

Such a gorgeous quilt! It really has a 3 dimensional quality to it. And as purple is one of my favorites also, your quilt really sings to me. :-)
